Not magic, but sleight-of-hand.  Normal practice is to use buildgcc.pl to
generate a driver script which invokes each of the sub scripts with command
line parameters that override the defaults.  Accommodating manual invocation
of the individual build scripts isn't something I've ever tried to do, and
I'd rather not start as the inevitable inconsistencies between the defaults
in buildgcc.pl and those in the scripts would cause confusion.
