mspgcc doesn't do this intentionally. AFAIK, the only thing the patches do about pic is disable it (with a warning) if it's passed to the gcc driver. I may not have added some feature to the host config description that would be required to use fpic when building the compiler itself. I had to check a build under OpenBSD once, and though it did eventually reveal a bug in binutils it was pretty painful to bring up and outfit with the build tools, so I'm happy to wait until you've had a chance to look into it more. > Thank you for you help, anyway!
