Scenario #1 (human walks around). Here's what I would do. You create some kind of front-end (hta, powershell, web page...) and when the human sits in front of the computer, they input information that's relevant, like... "Date the human filled this out", how many monitors attached, make, model, serial number, asset tag; and that front end dumps that information somewhere into HKLM\Software\YourCompanyName, and then you regkeytomof that out. Periodically, some human has to go out and do it all over again. Because people replace monitors, swap with the neighbor...
Scenario #2 (no humans involved at all): Back in 2008 (think SMS 2003/CM07) at the job I was at during that time, I was tasked to look at how to gather monitor info as well; at the time--I'm sure things have changed in 5 years--here's what I found: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/skissinger/archive/2008/08/14/how-to-gather-monitor-information-like-serial-number.aspx Of that list, the only vendor I'm aware of still actively keeping the code up to date is Enhansoft. It may be the other methods are great and maintained, I just don't know (since I haven't had to research them in depth since then)--so I encourage you to research the options, grab the demos, etc. Sherry Kissinger ________________________________ From: JRIT <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, May 30, 2013 7:55:12 AM Subject: Re: [mssms] CM2012 SP1 Inventory We have both scenarios here :) We have a spreadsheet with 60% of this information, but we will be taking this ASSET numbers manually on each Monitor again for many cases. Please, can you explain me you two suggestions for both cases? Thank you, 2013/5/30 Sherry Kissinger <[email protected]> Asset code; as in, there is a physical sticker on each monitor, so a human will have to input that information by walking to each monitor, looking at the code, and (without dyslexia moments) record that sticker's information somewhere on the machine to which it happens to be attached at that specific moment in time? > >Or, do you already have a list somewhere, where you have SerialNumber of this >monitor = This asset code? > >Depending upon your answer to that...I have an idea or two. > > Sherry Kissinger > > > > > > > ________________________________ From: JRIT <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Sent: Thu, May 30, 2013 6:35:55 AM >Subject: [mssms] CM2012 SP1 Inventory > > > >Folks, > >My manager wants to have Inventory for all desktop Monitors, each monitor have >an ASSET CODE.
