I shutdown.exe all PCs every night at 22:00 and wake them up in the early
morning for hinv/sinv
Additionally I have an advertisement that runs chkdsk /f where SCCM reboots
every Friday
Sometimes there are PCs hanging on shutdown and users need to power off but all
in all it helps a lot to have healthy PCs

Reto

We are pretty lucky, employees here are required to reboot nightly. It
definitely helps deployments, patching, etc.

It never ceases to amaze me how people actually believe what they are doing is
so important that they can't take the time to reboot their computer long enough
to make it more secure. Just baffles me

Thanks,
Chris

Subject: [mssms] PC Restarts

Hi

I am sure it's not unique to this organisation that we have a whole bunch of
people who are very reluctant to log-off, and even more reluctant to restart
their PC.

I proposed that we get the firms agreement for a monthly scheduled re-start for
some well publicised day. My hope was that after a month or two it would
become ingrained in everyone's memory and would become an accepted part of the
IT maintenance calendar. I suggested the 3rd Friday of each month, but in
truth the day does not matter too much, it's more about getting the concept
accepted.

My proposal was not accepted but what was acceptable is a window of a week
where the user must accept a re-start. So I guess I start asking them on the
Monday and they get to delay it for 24 hours, I ask again on the Tuesday etc.
etc. Eventually the grace window will expire and the re-start will be forced
upon them.

The re-start is always going to be in the maintenance window 2am to 7am.

Anyone tried this, been there got the medal, or got any alternative solutions.
Also interested to hear of any utilities which might offer this type of
facility.

Many thanks

Phil
