For those steps, I always put a marker at the end of the step name (i.e., "[**PWD**]") to help me remember which need special attention.

"...with "secrets" (passwords, product keys, etc.) being more difficult to export and import." Speaking of which..... .... Is there a way to export and import a task sequence including passwords for steps that are run as a specific user? I have about a half dozen steps in my task sequence that run as a specified user. When I export / modify / import the XML I always forget at least one when I have to go back and manually re-enter the passwords. It's a rather nasty process involving SMS_TaskSequencePackage and SMS_TaskSequence objects, with embedded objects for all the steps and groups. Personally, I would avoid trying to do the manipulation this way. Yes, it's possible, no, it's not fun. As an alternative, you can more easily export the existing task sequence as an XML blob, modify the XML, then import it back in again. Even that is a little tricky, with "secrets" (passwords, product keys, etc.) being more difficult to export and import. Hmm, I looked through the WMI classes and such a couple months back and couldn't find anything. I'll take another look too! Daniel, As far as I know, that is not necessary. All the appropriate WMI classes are defined, for each type of task sequence step, which allow you to manage the task sequence without exporting it first. I will have to do some research and write up an example. Anyone ever found/created a script that will edit a task sequence? The only way I can see if exporting the TS, editing, and re-importing it. It doesn't look like there is a way to do this automatically via PowerShell/WMI. Any other ideas?
