Hi Daniel,

Business Hours means the user can postpone an installation as long as the
deadline does not fall before the next Business Hours window. It's the same as
when you deploy Software updates and set an available from time, with a
deadline of two days later: the user in this case could install the updates
straight away if they wanted, or schedule them to install after work but once
that deadline is reached, they get installed.

Important is that Business Hours do not affect software distributions or patch
deployment deadlines. It is just a mechanism for the user, to say: ok deadline
is tomorrow, so install this but wait until 5pm today to do so. You can, via
Compliance Settings, configure the settings centrally but I don't see the point
really.

In your example, if the user does not choose to install beforehand, then the
updates will trigger at the deadline Tuesday 2pm, regardless, because this is a
mandatory deployment.

It allows the user a little more control over when stuff is installed. But in
the end, you the admin decide. You don't need to modify your deployment
behavior.

And as for servers, I wouldn't ever deploy optional deployments to servers,
personally.

Betreff: [mssms] Dealing with business hours in CM12

Hi all,

As I play around with CM12 I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to make this
new business hours feature fit for our existing software distributions and
software update deployments. Oddly (at least to me) you can't seem to centrally
manage the business hours in terms of specifying the hours or disabling it
altogether.

Personally I'd like to just disable as it seems like it's going to be a
headache and something that will necessitate us modifying our deployment
behaviour. As an example, our existing software update deployments have a
deadline of Tuesday at 2pm. Users are aware that this happens and they're aware
that the reboot is suppressed and they're expected to reboot/shutdown at the
end of the day. How am I supposed to make this work now with business hours? Am
I going to have to make the deployments ignore maintenance windows? And how do
business hours work on servers?

Just would like to hear from others on their business hours strategy I guess...

Daniel.
