Second most time in the SQL Mgmt Studio and 3rd most time in SSRS creating reports so users can "fish". I prefer SQL to WQL. If I get one request for a report, I develop it in SQL Mgmt studio and cut and paste results to an excel file and send. If I get the request again, or expect it to be an ongoing request, I create a SSRS report from the SQL I already developed.. If it is something I'll use all the time, I take the SQL and create a data connection in Excel and just refresh the data when I need it. Probably not best practice, but I grant most IT users read access to the CM database, so they can refresh excel reports I send them... It's not an ideal solution, but personally I prefer to simply run SQL queries inside of SQL Management Studio (SSMS). It's the easiest way for me to obtain raw data when necessary. Unfortunately, this doesn't help for publishing information to end users.
