Anyway a good place to start looking for root cause. The cause of my error was that we had a machine proxy set on some of the computers so they were unable to reach the internal wsus server without an exclusion specified. I would check if you have one by typing netsh winhttp show proxy in an elevated command prompt. Config Mgr clients still need their local windows update agent to be able to contact the WSUS server in your Config Mgr sever.
