I'd translate the native App Catalog and Software Center of CM12 into 3rd
party (1e,Flexera) and Run Advertised Programs in CM07.

Almost the same. You order in one and install in another. I know, not
exactly the same, but also not so hard.

Why having advertisements visible in RAP in CM07: It is so much easier to
re-install through that then through the portals.

We didn't have it, but enabled it after all while for all adv. it is just
easier and much faster for users and especially service desk to start
installs in RAP once they went through approval but need to be re-run.

Train your users.

Agreed! The two places to get software is the primary reason I won't even
consider using the built-in stuff. Flexera and 1E have mature products at a
reasonable price.

We don't have a third party portal, what we do have is users who should be
"working" and who find it difficult to distinguish between, shutdown,
restart and log off.

The very thought of trying to explain to them there are two place to check
for available software (App Cat & SC) is beyond us and them.

We moved and hid Software Centre and elevated Application Catalogue, users
were then trained to hit start and type "app" that gets them Application
Catalogue or Appv - bingo.

I can respect that.

By not having it installed, does it break any functionality, e.g. software
updates and software distribution?

Because folks don't think that their users can handle it - it's a
self-fulfilling prophecy IMO. They don't trust them with anything, so they
never become trustable. It's the basically the "control freak" method of
user/desktop administration. J

Why would one want to disable the Software Center client?

To my knowledge, the best you can do is run a script to delete the icon
(until R2).

I'm pretty sure that's only available in R2.

I believe there are some not so documented ways to do it with the client
install. I think it was something like /feature=. I'll see if I can find
them.

Has anyone disabled/removed the software center icon all together? If so, I
am curious how you accomplished this.
