Hi.

We have had an interesting issue with a customer where we are deploying a
remote (wan) DP that is running on a Windows Server 2012 domain controller.

When we installed the DP Site Role it failed with the same errors described in
this article (except we are not using Riverbed):
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c831d3a9-ada6-4d1e-b0b7-59f052f20501/sccm-2012-sp1-remote-dp-install-issue

We tried to install a brand new Windows Server 2012 (file server only), but got
the same errors when installing the DP role.
We tried to install a brand new Windows Server 2008 R2 (file server only), and
here everything worked fine installing the DP role.
When installing the DP role on the same network as the Primary Site everything
worked fine. So the issue is only for remote wan links.

After a lot of network tests we changed the MTU size on the remote DP (Windows
Server 2012) from 1500 (default) to 1464.
And everything started to work. I am not a network guy, so a few questions I
hope some of you can answer:

1) Have any of you needed to change the MTU size on a server to
successfully deploy remote Configuration Manager roles ?

This should be controlled on the network devices right ?

2) Any Idea why it worked on a Windows Server 2008 R2 without changing the
MTU size? Can it be related to SMB 3 ?

Thanks
Trond
