Well it sounds to me like you have a global include somewhere perhaps using the "generatedrivepatterns" and *\Desktop\*

I want to keep it on the migration store and NOT migrate back anything from the Desktop. Office settings / favourites / custom.dic - are all fine. For the life of me I can't get this to work.
