New Orleans wins, too, for sleeping in the street is fine. No need to ever
go back the hotel.

Papasito's yes, Papadeaux's no. (Not a seafood fan.) But I also have to
factor in proximity to Shipleys, Kolache Factory, decent barbecue, and
Chick-Fil-A. That makes the Galleria area sound fairly appealing, even with
the commute.

TechEd's in New Orleans and Houston make me hungry :) (New Orleans wins for
Cajun and Creole, but Houston wins for everything else.)

Thanks,

-Michael

The big question is how far to the nearest Papasitio's and Papadeaux?????

Remember Houston is hot and humid too - there's no way I'd walk 12 blocks
downtown, at least until after the parties when it's cooled down. (After
lots of Coke Zero, my only fear would be lack of restrooms along the route
:))

Thanks,

-Michael

Depends on where the parties are.

In the morning it may not be a bad walk , but after 1 or 3 parties, that
walk will begin to $uck! :)

Hmm.. didn't even notice when booking 12 blocks doesn't sound like too bad
of a walk. :)

There's a map on the TechEd site and the distance is listed for all the
hotels when selecting the hotel during registration. I think the DoubleTree
was the second closest hotel with rooms available.

The Galleria is a pretty good distance from the Convention Center. You're
looking at a cab ride.

Most of the hotels within blocks are full. I found only two that were not.
$500.00 per night was the rate for the one connected to the convention
center.

See the conference hotel rates on the TechEd website:

http://northamerica.msteched.com/Hotels

These are going to be much better than the hotel's listed rates, since the
convention will suck up a good percentage of downtown Houston's (and
probably farther out as well) hotel rooms.

Who is going to TechEd? I am trying to book my trip today. The hotel rooms
around the convention center are OUTRAGOUSLY expensive. $300.00-500.00 per
night. My employer isn't going to go for that.
