It's good practice to create reports based on SQL views only. The challenge is
to get a good overview of all the views and how they are related.

CM07 has a pretty useful tool that can assist you. Albeit, the views in CM12
are not 100% identical, it's still a pretty good way to get started.

Download the and install the CreatingCustomReportsByUsingSQLViews.msi file

Once you have this installed open C:\Program Files (x86)\Configuration Manager
2007 Documentation\Creating Custom Reports by Using Configuration Manager 2007
SQL View - note you have a Visio document and Excel spreadsheet.

If you open the Visio document and select the Discovery tab, notice all the
views. Next, look at Hardware Inventory.

Another thing you can do is open SQL Management Studio connect to the CM_XXX
database and create a new query like this:

select distinct table_name,COLUMN_Name from Information_Schema.columns where
table_name LIKE ('v_&') Order by table_name

Take a look at all the views returned.

This will give you an idea of the possibilities. If you want to create custom
reports do some digging on using...SQL Server Data Tools - Business
Intelligence Settings and start Visual Studio.

I'm sure there's some resources available some place to get you going on
creating custom reports from there.
