If any of your packages are just simple MSI installs, those are potentially low hanging fruit for using the application model. There is also the package conversion manager feature pack that can be installed: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh531519.aspx
The hardest part sometimes is the detection rules - determining how best to detect the software you are installing. It also depends on how complex the packages are as well.
