That could be very possible. People don’t like rebooting around here, even
when asked, which is why I forced the reboote in my task sequence. I suspect
the machine may be a little behind the update curve where I’d like it to be,
I’m having someone in that office check.
Thanks.

I'd go to one of those problematic machine and hit Windows Updates and see if
that shows IE 9 as required. Also make sure it's been rebooted lately. It could
be that it installed IE9 and was never rebooted which will make it show the old
version.

Yeah I was a little worried about using software distribution to do it, which
is why I wanted to use software updates. However, the update has been
available for about five days now and the machines still haven’t installed it.
The updates store lists a whole bunch of updates it needs but haven’t
installed, so I’m going to try and force the issue. I build a task sequence
that installs all available updates, reboots the machine, then installs updates
again. I’m hoping that will at least shed some light on why things aren’t
installing.

I always use software updates. I've gotten burned using software dist for this.
MAKE SURE TO REBOOT after or you will be sorry.

Subject: [mssms] deploying Internet Explorer 9 through SCCM

Hello all:
I’ve been asked to push Internet Explorer 9 out to one of our offices
using SCCM. I haven’t pushed an IE upgrade out through SCCM before, normally
if the user needs IE upgraded they install the update on their own. I figured
the best way to do this was to use software updates and just send the various
versions of IE out to a collection of the appropriate computers as an update.
Unfortunately, while it installed fine on a test machine I set up, its not
installing on the users machines, and I can’t tell why. The update is on the
DP, but I don’t think the computers think they need the update. So I’m
thinking that’s not the right approach and am looking into just sending it out
using software distribution. I looked on Microsoft’s site and found
instructions for doing this, I need to download the various IE components and
distribute them out and run
ie9_package.exe /quiet /norestart /update-no
I assume if I take off the /update-no it will go ahead and just install any
updates it needs. Question, am I on the right track for the best way to do
this? Is there a better way to handle this I’m not thinking of?
Thanks.
Ryan
