The way I've handled this, at a bunch of different clients, is to simply
create a batch file that wraps the wusa.exe installation commands, and then
finally calls the IE10 installer. This works flawlessly each and every time.
Instead of using the IEAK to create a customized installation, why not
simply control any configurations using Group Policy? GPO is an ongoing
management tool, whereas the IEAK produces a customized package that only
applies at a single point in time. Using GPO, or maybe PowerShell scripts
deployed through ConfigMgr, for any customizations seems like the best
option to me.

Below are the commands I have stored away in my OneNote notebook. Although
the notes are for IE11, the same concept works just fine with Internet
Explorer 10.

Trevor Sullivan

IE11 you can do as a security update yet with SCCM. Wish it was so we could
deploy it that way..

Thanks for this info. Is IE11 similarly endowed?

Yes. IE 10 should be available already in ConfigMgr Software Updates. Just
follow the steps below to get the other prereqs if required.

Is it possible to deploy the prerequisites and IE 10 from software updates
in 2012?

IE10 prereqs were a giant PITA. The above is for CM2012, but the same
principle applies as far as publishing the prereqs to WSUS to make them
available in ConfigMgr.

Hope that helps!

Subject: [mssms] IE10 and the Troubles of Deploying via SCCM

Hello,

I have seen a few e-mails and posts on the net so I wanted to check with the
experts :)

Over the past few weeks I have been trying to deploy Internet Explorer 10 to
Windows 7 (running IE8). Simple.. Well not so.. I am attempting to deploy
via SCCM 2007 R2, by 2 ways.. by a standard EXE and also via WSUS.

I have created an EXE via the IEAK and for some this works and for other
workstations this fails. Reviewing deeper there a few pre-reqs required.

I am still experiencing issues with this and wanted to know if anyone can
advise on their experiences to get IE10 deployed (ideally I would prefer to
use SCCM and WSUS than the IEAK).

Any tips or tricks of the trade would be greatly appreciated...

Regards,

Tony
