You could use content pre-staging to avoid the content re-rep. You could leave it in place also and see what happens - I have a hunch that it will actually get picked up and used again or least not have to be re-replicated - no guarantees on that though.

My plan is to uninstall the site system roles, disjoin from the domain, reboot, rejoin to the new domain and then re-configure the site system roles.
