For me, it’s a personal blog--where I work I doubt they’d ever have a publicly accessible blog roll anyway--not for technology. But I’m very careful to always take screen shots or any details from my virtual lab @home. If it happens to be a screenshot of something that I can’t reproduce in the virtual lab (has to come from work production for whatever reason), then I’m very creative with paint or snagit or something to “white out” any names. No matter how innocuous I might think a datapoint of “winword.exe is in c:\program files\office10”, you know someone internally might say “you just gave away a corporate secret! no one *knew* before that we were using the default location! we’re compromised!” So I simply… don’t.
What you can do, and I've done, I’ve asked Rod to automagically re-post anything I post on a different blog location, into myitforum’s blog space as well. So if you have to, one day, only blog on the corporate blog space… just ask him to repost on your behalf. That way at least you know it’s “saved” in a public location. the internet is the internet. nothing is ever lost. 😊 From: Marcum, John Sent: Monday, March 10, 2014 2:23 PM To: [email protected] Consllting firms seem to like their guys to blog on the corporate blog. I know some that post their content on both the company blog and their personal blog. I personally wouldn't give my employer exclusive rights to my blogs. I don't have that issue though because I'm not a constultant. I know some people who are not allowed to use their employers name in any material they present. I've heard "a large financial instutions whose name rhymes with Bells Bargo" in a number of MMS sessions for instance. Ultimately if you are not in a right to work state you can be fired for any reason. if your employer doesn't like what you have to say then they can fire you but if that's the case you probbaly don't want to work for them anyway. Hi guys, I really enjoy blogging on my own personal site about my experiences with System Center and PowerShell. My company is beginning to spin up a blog of their own, and I'm anticipating a time in which they'd want to use my content on their site. The thing is that I really enjoy having my own personal blog and having my own independence in that regard. Do any of you guys blog? What does your employer think of it? Have you been asked not to write about something before? I always leave my clients names and info out of my posts, and am VERY careful not to give away any of the 'secret sauce' that people may approach my company for. Still, I'm always a bit afraid someone will ask me to shut it down. I never signed an NDA or gave away my IP rights to my work-history, experiences, or code, however.
