I personally do not use applications in my TS's and I know several others do
not either because they don't seem to be as reliable as packages and programs.
That being said I don't see any reason that an exe shouldn't work.

Subject: [mssms] Installing Applications during reimage based on collection
memberships

Running Config Manager 2012 R2 SP1

I have been working on installing applications based on collection memberships
when a system is reimaged during OSD task sequence.

All is going smoothly but need some confirmation on one thing.

All applications except three install as expected. The reimage task sequence
finishes without error and when checking the smsts log file, none of the
applications error out.

Can someone confirm that .exe setup files fail when run in TS in this manner?
I may be mistaken but I think I may have read that an install with setup.exe or
a programname.exe will not work when installing this way.

How it's set to run:

Install Application sets which check for a collection variable = TRUE to tell
whether the machine is in the collection and if it is, it will run the install
based off of the base variable also set as a collection variable.

Example of one that doesn't work:

Basevariable in TS step is INSTACRO

INSTACRO01 set as variable with value of "Adobe Acrobat" (name of application
in Config Manager).

Deployment Type consists of an install.cmd file which runs a Setup.exe

All applications run from software center on any machine we have which is just
a regular app deployment (non TS).

Other applications have install.cmd which runs .msi file and they work fine.

All applications are selected to run in task sequence and install for system or
user.

Any help would be appreciated. I can't find much as I don't have any errors to
go by. I can't find where I read that this will not work for setup.exe and
wanted to get some confirmation.

Thanks,

Lyle Jones
