May be of interest, but there will be a session (possibly a pre-con)
dedicated to licensing at IT/Dev Connections. The session will be given by
Wes Miller with Directions on Microsoft.

The only people who can definitively answer licensing and cost questions are
your sales folks at Microsoft.

There are several ways to license ConfigMgr. If you plan to use more than
one System Center product, often times it is cheaper to buy the OS+SC Suite
all together. Your Microsoft Account Rep will be able to break down the
costs based on what you have (and plan to have) and the different ways to
license everything.

Could the licensing be any more confusing?

Wondering if someone could help me out. It's time for our Microsoft true-up
and we've been given the option to upgrade to the Core Infrastructure Server
Suite (Datacenter) which apparently includes the entire SC suite and
unlimited OSE's. So is CIS a requirement if all we want is the ConfigMgr
client on workstations and servers? Right now we only have the client on
workstations and we're wanting to start putting it on servers as well. Does
that require upgrading our license? We may at some point look at using
OpsMgr (and other SC products) but as of right now, that's not needed. So I
don't know if we'd benefit from upgrading to CIS Datacenter.

I'm trying to put together some info for the CIO to help make his decision
on whether we need to upgrade to CIS or not. Any help you can provide will
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James
