I have something posted somewhere, but can't find it right now. Too
flustered packing up for TechEd.
This event has been going on for over 15 years. But, when I came on board
last year, I decided to change things up because it had become stale, and
geared primarily toward dev. With MMS dead, IT/Dev offered the perfect
time to reboot and the Penton folks were kind enough to let me have the
reins. Last year is what I call year 1, or the "Computing Edge/Swynk"
year. Great event. Smaller and highly technical. No sales or marketing. We
brought on many of the familiar speakers and redirected content to be more
applicable. Last year was awesome, and really did feel like MMS year 1.
Sessions were like User Group meetings. A few more notable sessions were
actually led (unintentionally) by audience questions. It has a very
comfortable feel, allowing attendees to get exactly what they need out of
it. If an attendee doesn't leave with pages full of solutions, they did it
wrong. :)
This year, you'll see we're expanding a bit more. More sessions, more
familiar faces. I expect 2014 to be along the lines of the Naples year,
except, of course, in Vegas. We're also working to pull in some very
identifiable support, sponsorship, and keynote speakers this year. We're
in the final stages of negotiations, but once revealed, there'll be very
little difference between the early years of MMS (when it was still a
technical community event) and IT/Dev Connections. I'm spending time next
week (with some Microsoft folks) on how we work together better in the
future for IT/Dev, particularly on how we expand the "Windows" track. If
you look at it today, all Cloud/System Center/Etc falls under a "Windows"
umbrella. That will change for 2015. Who knows...? Maybe a "MMS" type
track all by itself (it's been discussed). :)
But, the real goal here is to bring back a true technical, community-based
event. Sure, we'll have our RockStar speakers, but then we'll also be able
to help those future RockStars get their start (like we did in the old
days). There are no 101 type sessions. When Day 1 starts, it's deep dive
technical info. We do host an online pre-event that does provide the 101
(or overview) sessions, so those interested (but not experienced) in a
specific topic can get a good overview prior to attending.

Do you have a synopsis of what this event is? we have some folks that
could not go to TechED. I would like to send them here instead.
