Subject: Re: [mssms] WSUS updates for Windows Server 2012

If I understand the question, you are asking whether or not ConfigMgr 2012 RTM
allows you to deploy Server 2012 updates. I don't have RTM in front of me, but
I'm fairly certain the answer is yes. Here's how to check yourself... I
suspect you simply haven't checked the box.

In your CM12 console, go to Administration, Site Configuration, Sites,
highlight your site and in the ribbon above pull-down 'Configure Site
Components', Software Update Point, and go to the tab for "Products". Scroll,
scroll, scroll until you find the Windows section, and my guess is that you
want to put checkmarks next to Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Caution: do NOT go nutso in there. If you don't need it, don't check mark it.

After you've hit OK for those changes, be prepared for a bit of a wait. After
you've made that change, go open up <your server CM installed
location>\logs\wsyncmgr.log and then in your console go to Software Library,
Software Updates, and right-click on "all Software Updates" and request a
synchronization. It *will* take a while (watch the log). It might be hours.
might be overnight. it depends on your link and your environment. Once the
sync is done, you'll see the Server 2012 updates available to be added to your
software update groups.

(Side Note): Even though I don't think you need to upgrade in order to get the
Server 2012 updates... I strongly encourage you to upgrade to CM2012 R2 + the
latest Cumulative Update (Currently CU1) anyway. there are quite a few
enhancements and bug fixes. You'll want to upgrade anyway.

Hi,

We are running SCCM 2012 Version 5.00.7711.0000 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM.

We have just added a couple of Windows Server 2012 VM machines and wanted to
push WSUS updates to them.

Is this possible or would we need to update the SCCM 2012 server to a newer
version?

Thanks in advance,
