Quick question: If the Management Point isn't there, how is the Client installed on the PC? Are they not delivered the same way? (I'm trying to learn here.)
--Matt Ross Ephrata School District Nash Pherson <[email protected]> , 6/25/2014 1:12 PM: If there is no healthy management point, then there is nowhere for the client to download policies from, so no client functions are going to work (Applications, packages, or otherwise). You’ll have to start by resolving the issue with the Management Point role. If you haven’t gotten very far, then perhaps wiping things clean and starting over using a detailed guide would be the easiest thing to do. This will help ensure all the pre-reqs are in place and that the basic configuration is done. If running on a different server make sure the Site Server computer account is an administrator on the MP server (or any other site system server for that matter). … if you are using the computer account to install the different roles. I use packages, so I can’t really speak to applications. Maybe try a package then and see if it works. Brian Henry From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Matthew W. I've tried to deploy the SCCM client on a different computer, and it did install after a couple of reboots. I've added this PC to the same test collection, and it hasn't started the install of the MSIs yet. I checked the server, looking for something wrong, and I found that the Management Point was coming up Critical. Here's the error: ---SNIP--- Site Component Manager successfully used the SMS_SERVER_BOOTSTRAP_TECH-CM01 service to run the following program on site system "\\TECH-CM01.ESD165.ORG": C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\x64\rolesetup.exe /install /siteserver:TECH-CM01.ESD165.ORG The program failed for the following reason: Child process ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\x64\rolesetup.exe" /install /siteserver:TECH-CM01 SMSMP 0" took too long to execute, and the process (PID = 11464) was orphaned. Possible cause: Site Component Manager does not have sufficient access rights to administer the site system. Solution: Verify that the Site System Installation accounts are properly configured to allow the site to administer the site system. Site Component Manager cannot install component SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER until the program runs successfully. If this problem persists, refer to your ConfigMgr Documentation or the Microsoft Knowledge Base for further troubleshooting information. ---SNIP--- I'm looking into this now... --Matt Ross Ephrata School District Matthew W. Ross <[email protected]> , 6/25/2014 8:13 AM: These were Applications. I do not know the difference between Apps and Packages. I will be reading up on that today. There is no CAS.log on either client or on the server. As for the reinstall of the client, the Software Center never re-appeared, but I still see the system center icon in the Control Panel. Last, my Boundary and BG was set to be the entire AD. Now I've set it to be the entire IP subnet. Neither has worked. --Matt Ross Ephrata School District King, Jason <[email protected]> , 6/24/2014 2:11 PM: Is it an application or a package? The answer determines which log files to look at on the client - packages look at execmgr.log, applications look at appdiscovery.log and appenforce.log. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427342.aspx As others have said, check boundaries and boundary groups are created properly and reference your distribution point correctly. On the client PC, in Control Panel, there is the COnfiguration Manager applet. On the actions tab, do you have a list of actions or just a couple? Run a machine policy retrieval action to get the latest policy for the client. Also, patience is often needed. How long has it been since you created the deployment? I am attempting to evaluate SCCM 2012 R2 for our use at our school district. For my evaluation, I have procured a Dell PE R410 server with 16 Gigabytes of ram and 450GB of Raid10 storage. I've installed the MS SQL server and Configuration Manager 2012 R2 on the server, and everything is installed in "evaluation" mode. I've gotten to the point where I want to try to install some software as a test. I've setup a client group that includes a single Windows 7 pc. The SCCM client has installed, and I can see it on the remote PC. I have created two packages to install: Google Chrome (the MSI for enterprises) and Evince (a very small PDF viewer). Both I've deployed both. Neither is installing. On the SCCM side, I see "Client check passed/Active" in the deployment status, and it doesn't seem to be going any further. On the Windows 7 client side, I see nothing in the System Center Software Center. I do see the following when I run bitsadmin /list /allusers: {2B906031-A2DE-412F-808E-3C3E9DACD447} 'WU Client Download' TRANSFERRED 1 / 1 521496 / 521496 {B1A60D86-6C0B-4490-9375-EBF8EC6DCAEF} 'WU Client Download' TRANSFERRED 1 / 1 610584 / 610584 {7E0E9B88-ABDC-4E20-A5B8-9372CD4AF347} 'DMRCBitsJob_780dc1c9-4d57-42a9-af61-fbf535dc618e.devicemetadata-ms' TRANSFERRED 1 / 1 84124 / 84124 {A663AC99-CED6-47A3-A366-D4463A24383E} 'DMRCBitsJob_89cf5ebe-8cd2-42e2-b99a-49b90cd7e8bf.devicemetadata-ms' TRANSFERRED 1 / 1 925510 / 925510 {2FC9BD23-222D-4F74-A241-26F223A8CD26} 'soxe.definitions' TRANSFERRED 1 / 1 40026 / 40026 Listed 5 job(s).
