1. I don't recommend using RB to edit the reports, instead use BIDS.

2. You should not edit the existing reports, you can make a copy of the
reports and use that.

3. If you have to use RB don't forget to download and install the SQL
certificate to your PC.

4. You will likely have to give them read only access to the DB too.

5. If you are going to writing RBA enable reports, there are tricks to get
it going. Take a look at my blogs about it. Here are some of the blog topics on
the subject. http://be.enhansoft.com/search.aspx?q=BIDS

As an aside, I'm hoping to present this topic at http://mms.mnscug.org/ if you
would like to see this topic at MMS tweet @MMSMinnesota and tell them it is a
must have. :)

Honestly I don't use the MS datasource when creating my reports. Instead I
create my own DS and then change the DS to use the MS DS when I upload them.
These blogs/ videos will get you started on that part.

Subject: [mssms] RBA for Reporting administrators

Has anyone had any luck creating a role for users that need to be able to
create and modify reports? I have a role that will allow the users to read but
when I created one for people to create I cannot seem to connect to the data
set. Also, the only way I have been able to give EDIT rights to reports is if
I give Modify rights to the site. I don't want to do this since people who
make reports don't need access to modify the site itself.

Here is what my role looks like:

With the role you see here. I can get to reports and click EDIT. When report
builder launches, I choose to create a new data set. The user gets "Login
Failed for User"
