Content in the Cache is tombstoned and overwritten when space is required. As
far as i know there is no scavenging option. Content stays in the cache minimum
24 hours but will only be deleted when the space is required for new content.
Except persisted content of course.

Only way is to use the supported client cache clean method from sdk.

Subject: [mssms] Client Cache Cleanup

After you delete a deployment, how long does the install source remain in the
local cache? Is it 30 days? We've recently pushed out some fairly large
applications and now many of the PC's with SSD's are very low on disk space
(I'm sure it has nothing to do with their 15GB of music and pictures) so I've
removed the deployment but just curious how long I'll need to wait before the
4GB+ of install files gets freed up from cache.

I had a script in CM07 that would delete unused cache folders on the client by
comparing them to WMI. I can't seem to find that script. Anyone have a link to
that? I assume that would still work for CM12.

Thanks,
