Lots of good ideas, but I think what is going to throw things off is that they
want to know when the machine is physically connected and not just connected
via the VPN. The whole thing sounds like they want evaluate a symptom and would
be better to check what they actually want to accomplish while they are
connected, like a file version or date.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not exactly a SCCM solution but could you use PowerShell to get DHCP lease
info? You could even use a SCCM collection to contain the computer names that
you could then get via PowerShell to check against DHCP. Just a thought.

Thanks,
Ken …

Maybe put a compliance baseline in that validates a couple of things like
correct subnet, the ability to talk to the internal dns server, and a couple of
other things that catch the machine inside the network.

Maybe also software metering on an exe that you have set to run when it detects
that the machines are inside the network?

Is there something that happens, updated, deploys, etc when they are in one of
these physical locations? I assume they connect via a VPN or IBCM when not in
these physical offices?

Just going to throw this out there and see if anyone has a suggestion, I don’t
think this is possible to accomplish with SCCM.

We’ve got a group of laptop users that have been required to come to one of our
physical locations and connect via cable to the network for a certain amount of
time every 30 days. Now I’m being asked for a report to see how many of those
users are actually doing that.

To my knowledge, the closest that I might be able to get would be to get a list
of IP addresses that the machine has been issued, but I don’t think there is
any way to track the duration for how long a machine was connected.

If you’ve got ideas, I’m all ears (eyes?)
