Can they be patched? No, not the built in Store apps, only from the Windows Store. The .msi and .appx files are not available for patching.
For us, we just remove all the built in store apps except a couple. Some users are now getting prompted to update the built-in apps, like the weather app or the video app. When these users attempt to update, they are taken to the Windows store app, where they receive a message that states the store has been disabled by the administrator. We're using SCCM 2012 R2 CU3. Is it possible to patch these apps through SCCM software updates rather than through the store? Is it possible to leave the store open for updates, but not for new app downloads? What is everyone else doing? I'm tempted to just remove all of the built-in modern/metro apps from the golden image.
