I'd say it depends on the reasons you're moving to the new server. Are you
having issues with the current one, wanting to change the site code? Or is it
working perfectly and just for the purposes of a hardware or OS upgrade? If
it's just a hardware or OS upgrade and you're good with keeping everything else
the same, site backup and recovery is perfectly fine. If you're doing it
because you're having issues with the OS or site, consolidating multiple sites
and a CAS to a stand-alone primary, wanting to change site codes, etc, you will
want to stand up a new site and migrate to it.

Subject: [mssms] Move single primary site server

I am curious for the community's take on moving to a new site server. What
options are there? Is it best to stand up a new site/server/etc. and migrate?
Or is restoring from backup to a server with the same name best?

I realize "best" is subjective. . .just looking for experiences and options.

Thanks,

Jeff
