Just checked one of my 7040's it's a SFF and is showing only chassis type
3.

Is yours a Micro? I think I have a 7040 Micro let me check...

Checked my 7040 Micro and it reports the same as yours, both type 2 and
type 3 with System Enclosure 1 showing Type 2 and Enclosure 0 showing Type
3. Don't know why it would be displaying both types.

3 = Desktop, 2= Unknown
