Had to troubleshoot this same issue with reporting and explain to management. Basically the number you see in the reports will be inflated because every time a user logs in to a machine and the install is triggered, it will get reported as success/failure/other. So you if an installs fails on 5 different PCs for the same user, you’ll get 5 failures reported. What you really want is to look at the summarized data, which should only give you one error/success state for each user deployed to.
The tricky part is that you still might have a higher incidence of errors reported, because when the data gets summarized, if a user had a failed deployment on a single PC and success on 4 others, the summarized state for that user is still marked as a failure. User based deployments are still really tough for me from a reporting standpoint. I wound up creating my own reports that are slightly better than what’s out of the box and contain some blurbs that help explain the data to the people consuming the reports. If I click “View Status,” to get details, the error number is much lower. If I use the software distribution reports, I see that the Application Deployment Status report has three rows for each type of error…basically tripling the number of errors, even though they are for the same user. Has anyone seen this before? How do I troubleshoot this? The site status is healthy overall, from everything I looked at.
