I'm going to be upgrading the hardware that hosts our web site. It's going
to be a dual 2.x Xeon w/ 4 Gig ram. The host OS is going to be Linux, the
slack 9.1 distro. It will be sitting behind a Firon Security Server.

The web hosting OS will actually be a virtual machine running within the
host OS. I currently have several VMs and really like the features. One of
the coolest features is the fact that after you set up the machine you can
make a complete backup of the entire thing. Later you can restore it to
that "snapshot".

There will be plenty of room left on the host server to create several other
VMs. All flavors of Windows and *nix (x86 flavors) are available.

I'd like to offer you guys the first crack at having your own VM system.
You can do whatever you like on it (as long as it is legal), web hosting,
your own FTP drop point, email server, whatever.

So if you're interested in running your own system on the Internet but think
colo and dedicated server is too expensive, drop me a line and let me know
what you have in mind.

There are two reasons I'm offering it to you guys first. 1. My costs will
be pretty low for what you get. I've scoped out VMs on the net and they get
expensive quick. I'm not necessarily looking to make money here, I'll have
leftover bandwidth and server resources so it'd be nice to make a little
more with it. Don't let pricing scare you away, email me and we'll see what
we can work out. I know what it's like to be the "little guy" trying to
start a project you really have your heart in (like me with starting
BeginThread.com and eventually web hosting), it's expensive to try to do
anything and if I can help someone else "break in" I'd be happy.

2. I'd rather have a personal relationship with whoever is being VM hosted
on my box. I've developed several friends through BeginThread.com and we've
gone on to do other projects together. It's turned out really nice. I'm
not interested in having some company that I know nothing about running a VM
on my box, without a personal connection we lose flexability and a good
working relationship.

So, if you've ever had a project in mind that would take a dedicated box on
the Internet but just haven't had what you felt was the right opportunity to
get it started, drop me a line and let's see what we can do.

Thanks!
