Uh, don't you mean "rational dislike"?

Ah, I never looked at it like that. Maybe only 10 more years to go and Java
will be a by-word like some of the other no-name languages that never went
anywhere.

Of course there will still be some diehards out there that will still be
toting around their JDK and runtime installs. They better make not only the
java code but also the run-time non-platform specific or else they are in
for some real trouble. Once XP, w2k, etc... are phased out and the runtime
doesn't run on the newer OS releases those guys will be in some real
trouble.

Or of course they could always have "Requirements: XP, w2k" still on their
sys requirement list 10 years from now. A real business solution:

Sales: "We're going to come and upgrade your whole office to run our
application"
Owner: "OK, what do we need to do?"
Sales: "We just need to get on ebay and find some Antique P4 3.2GHz machines
and slap XP w/ SP2 on them and we'll be good to go."
Owner: "What's wrong with all the new machines we bought last year?"
Sales: "Oh, well, Java Dinosaur Edition won't run on those boxes, they quit
making the runtime environment 10 years ago."
Owner: "Then why don't you guys develop in a language that is more modern
and up to date?"
Sales: "Well, we really like the Java philosophy: Code once, debug many."

I better stop here, I feel a story coming on. Something like Dilbert. And if
I don't stop here there's no telling how long the drama will play out and I
won't get any real work done. Plus, as they say, humor is the best medicine,
and I've gotten a good dose today.
