I have only seen this one time when somebody turned off Netbt on the server.
I re-enabled it and it came back undimmed, if you will. But keep in mind
this wasn't an exchange server. I don't know if your situation linked to
exchange is coincidence or in fact related. I am assuming this in an NT 40
box you speak of.

Subject: Remote Server looks Wrong in Server Manager
I found a couple "Mole" articles in Technet about this, but all it said was
browsing is an ineffective way to contact all your servers. Humph.
I have a remote Exchange server. For some reason, neither the local admin
person nor myself (both domain admins, both exchange admins) can admin the
box without being logged on as the service account. So what the hell does
this have to do with NT you ask? Because I already know what the Exchange
list will tell me - check perms and then call PSS. Perms are right. You'll
have to trust me.
My question is about this: in Server Manager this server shows up dimmed,
with the wrong icon and the description "Windows NT Workstation or Server",
NOT "Windows NT Server", like her other server that she wants to get off of.
Is there anyway this is related to the admin problems we are having? I'm
grasping at straws - I already know that this site won't be happy about
calling MS for help even though that is my recommendation right now - they
already think they are on the chopping block.
