Do you routinely have problems with the Server service?

I pretty much know what to monitor as far as applications, for example: all
Exchange services; IIS; SQL;... But I was just curious about NT default
services also, such as Server; Workstation; Net Logon; Spooler things like
that need to monitor as well. The bottom line is, I want the system to page
and email me when one of the service stop or lockup at any point of time.

First things first, operate on the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid.

Don't install services or parts of applications if you aren't using them.
For example: I'm fighting with some folks here in the business unit about
what parts of IIS to install. They want a default install, I want to leave
off FTP and Admin web site if they don't use them. The less stuff you put
on a server the more supportable/stable it'll be. That means that you look
at the server as a whole for monitoring purposes, some services are more
likely to fail, others are an indicator that something is amiss on the
machine, it really depends on what you have on the system.

Wouldn't that depend on what the server is for?

If it's my exchange box you'd better believe I'm monitoring the exchange
services ...

Question: I want to run a Service Monitor software on all servers, my
question is which would be the most likely NT services that can cause server
lockup, so I make the list to monitor? I know like Server; Net Logon...
Any idea? Thanks!
