I have this problem too. No messages for ages then for a few days I'll get
loads.

I posted this same question about 6 months ago. 

The general consensus was that it's an incompatibility between microsoft DNS
and others, and to just ignore it as it seems to work OK.

It would be nice to tidy up the event log :-)

Can anyone point me in the right direction on finding information on the
listed Event ID's.

550:DNS Server failure processing packet from 12.9.204.3.  Packet is
discarded. 
604:DNS Server encountered invalid domain name in packet from 12.9.204.3.
Packet is rejected. 
606:DNS Server encountered invalid domain name offset in packet. Offset is
the error. 

These errors are from a NT 4.0 SP6a Server.
