I have the same problem but with nt server 4 sp6a. I noticed that this only
happens to my server when I run a backup. I get the same errors in my event
log as well and haven't seen anything else that can cause the problem. The
things that I did so far that has not worked was reinstall sp6a and change
the page file size. The reason why I changed the page file is cause this
started happening right after I installed more memory. For our backup we
use veritas backup exec 8.5 and I asked them what I can do to fix this and
they told me to reinstall backup exec. I did this over the weekend but
haven't tested it yet. Does your server also freeze when it goes off line
or can you actually shut it down without pressing the button?

Subject: Server Drops off network

In one of our remote offices we have 2 NT servers in the same subnet. One
if the file and printer server, the other one is a Norton Antivirus
Corporate Edition Parent server for the office.

The problems we are experiencing (please forgive the lack of detail, I
will get more when I can remote access the server again) is that every so
often, the server will simply drop off the network.

All local users in the office loose connections to files, etc, and no one
can access anything on that server.
The only solution is to reboot, after which the server is fine.

After rebooting the server, there are always a number of errors relating
to the Master Browser either being told it is the browse master even tho
it is not, or the brower thinking it is the master browser but being told
by the other BDC in that subnet that it is not.
A browser election ensues and after this there are no further events that
relate to the problem.

What I have noticed is that the browse master contention always seems to
be between the 2 BDC's.

What I want to know is can I simply stop the computer browser service on
one of the BDC's in that local subnet and this will take care of the
issue, or is there more to it then that?

I have looked into the event log errors on MS Knowledgebase but so far
havent found any solutions that have been even remotely exciting.

If anyone has similar issues and knows something that might help out in
this situation, please let me know.

Regards

    -Luke
