One more thing when i viewed in the Even viewer of the PDC there was a error
and the error message is Another machine has sent a name release message to
this machine probably because a duplicate name has been detected on the TCP
network. The IP address of the node that sent the message is in the data.
Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict
state. After running this command I found there is a conflict in the domain
name.
Any suggestions.

It sounds like to me that your BDC was your domain master browser. It
contained the list of all the computers in your domain. Normally, if the
browse master is turned off, an election will be forced with the remaining
computers, but that can take up to 15 minutes I think? I seem to remember a
quirk about Windows 2000 where it will always try to authenticate to the
same domain controller. This could be what you ran into.

Subject: Problem with Logon

Hello All,
               I have a Windows 4.0 Network with a PDC , BDC and few 2000
professional machines. Today Morning I switched off the BDC for some reason
and only the PDC was running . The 2000 professional macines logged in but
were not able to access the LAN(Intranet) through Network Neighbourhood. It
displayed a error message saying System not accessible as no login servers
(Domain servers) are available to complete the request. I pinged the
particular System which I wanted to access it pinged fine. After that I
switched on the BDC and tried to acess the Intranet all systems were able to
access the LAN. I want to know
1. Should BDC be running along with the PDC and where are the Domain User
name and Password verified?
2. What is the solution to the above said problem and what are the steps i
need to follow to rectify this problem?
Thanks,
Thomas.A.C
