if you want to use lpr just configure the port and change it to lpr with
thip address of the printer.

Subject: Revisited: NT as a Print Server

I am revisiting the NT as a print server thing cause I've got to get it
done...The first thing I would like to know is: does anyone know what/where
to find the "printing services" for Unix for NT? It includes the LPR
protocol...

I just might be able to make this work. I now have VPN capability; an NT 40
box; jet direct card and/or a terminal server and cable modem at the
facility. WE NEED to use VPN because our billing system operates on our LAN
which is private. The cable modem allows tunnelling through the Internet,
etc..

The way our billing system works is that it uses
a main frame located off site which associates an IP address with a print
queue name/ID. When a user sends a print request that print queue is called,

etc. What combination would be the most optimal...the terminal
server/jet-direct card/printer/cable modem or the NT box w/or without the
jet-direct card and cable modem going through the VPN?

JHF
