We are going to block inbound mail at an upstream box for all email addresses that aren't on the backend Exchange box. We don't want the edge SMTP gateway to query the Exchange LDAP or other service, because we want the gateway to be autonomous when fighting off harvesting, whatever SMTP attacks.
