I couldn't agree more...many of these discussions are started with
some question, and that's one of the things I like about it too (BTW.
is this a mailing-list or something like an IRC-channel? never mind)
My point is about 2 things: I like discussing things that were not
discussed before, or exploring some new angles (like light-pens,
Z380's etc. etc.) rather than spending time answering questions that
are asked over and over again, and could simply be answered by
looking into documents LIKE this MSX Technical Data Book.
b) There are something like a million MSX-machines sold worldwide
(forget about numbers, it might be 2 million, or hundreds of
thousands, but a lot anyway), and there IS this book describing every
detail of what exactly a MSX should be. With this many MSX-machines
around, I think such a document simply SHOULD be on the web
someplace, regardless of how interesting people might consider it.
This is just a general point of view: when it's widespread enough,
the basics about it should be publicly available somehow (like on the
web). Think of file-formats: when it's a common format (GIF, JPEG),
descriptions of such a format are available. Think of HTML: millions
of browsers are based on it, so specification of it are available. I
think it would be good if this were the case for MSX standards as
well.
