This is not true. The MSX turbo R ST has a KERNEL v2.30 and the GT has a 
KERNEL v2.31.

The main difference between 2.20 and 2.30 is that 2.30 has support for the 
R800. That is, it switches to Z80 mode before calling the low level drive 
access routine and back to R800 mode when done with the low level drive 
access routine. This is needed to prevent timing problems, especially with 
the head repositioning. I do not know the exact difference between 2.30 and 
2.31. I guess that 2.31 has some bug fixes. But not enough as there are still 
some subtle bugs in the CPU switching routines :-(
