Hello,
Since december 1997 the diskdrive of my Turbo-R is out of order. Placing a
new belt did not make sense. The only thing I could do was to buy a new
drive. Panasonic stopped producing/supporting MSX quite a while ago, so I
could not get an original drive.
Luckily I found a 720KB FDD. Together with a description how to connect
everything I thought this would be an easy task, but it turned out to be a
nightmare.
In the article from MSX Club Gouda I read they use a 720KB drive of Chinon.
I have an identical drive but I'm having nothing but trouble. Once I start
my MSX, the drive spins for a moment to find the index and everything seems
normal. The problems begin when the drive should go look for the
bootsector, etc. The spindlemotor spins very sloooow and it doesn't read a
thing. At first I was thinking that it might be the powersupply for the
drive, so I used the powersupply of my PC (correction: IBM compatible :-)
). This did not help; the motor still did not spin at the correct speed. I
tried to solder the cable again and the result...... yes, again..... it did
not work.
So, what do I have: A useless Turbo-R...........
Can anyone give me some advice to get some life into my MSX again? It's
dead for half a year now......
GreeTz,
Roberto
