The S1990 is the MSX-Engine...
It's noting more than a VLSI chip that manages slot selection, keyboard scan registers,
PSG, joystick interface, chip select for memory chips. DOS2 memory mapper....
Just some components are gathered in this chip to reduce the number of components.
For MSX2 there are the S1985 and S3527???.
But the S1990 is not very important to a programmer, just use the functionality that's
defined in the MSX standard. What I mean to say is this : you don't have to know what
type of engine there is in your computer. Functionality is the same.
The turbo-R is slower in Z80 mode, but average 5 times faster than a normal MSX in
R800 mode.
The R800 is Z80 compatible...
Bugs in the ST???
Someone mentioned a better layout to reduce noise from the FM circuit???
I have one bug too : When I boot MSX-DOS1 "COPY CON SOMEFILE.TXT" doesn't work...
In MSX-DOS2 it does work...
I don't know if this is solved in later releases of the ST or the GT...
There are differences in FS-a1ST turbo-R's....
I noticed a difference in the routines that switches back to Z80 mode when reading
from disk.
In the newer versions of the ST it's the same as in the GT...

Subject: S1990
Hi
I've never worked with a Turbo R, and I'm not familiarized with his
hardware. I have some questions?
- What is the S1990?
- Is slower than in the 2+?
- Which are the "minor bugs" of the Panasonic A1-ST (solved in the GT)
commented in the Ultimate MSX-FAQ?
Thanks!
