Sure! Here in Brazil there weren't built a "real" MSX 2. Gradiente and
Sharp only produced MSX 1 (Expert and Hotbit, respectively). So, Ademir
Carchano (from ACVS) created a "MSX 2 transformation kit". He took off the
old VDP, and placed a second board, over the older one, with all the
differences from MSX 1 to 2: SUBROM, new BIOS, VDP, more memory (Mapper),
FM (some cases), realtime clock chip, etc. After that, Ademir developed a
"MSX 2+ transformation kit", where you can have a MSX 2+! Unfortunately,
we had some problems regarding to the overheat... The power source weren't
prepared for 2 boards.

I've got an original MSX 1, which was converted to a MSX 2. After, I sold
it and bought a MSX 1 which was converted to a MSX 2+. Finally, I've bought
a Turbo-R and sold the MSX 2+. Nowadays, Ademir Carchano created a all-new
MSX 2+ board, smaller and better built, so he can only change the boards.
