For MSX -> PC:
Rudolf Lechleitner, author of RuMSX emulator, also wrote a set of
MSX-screen viewers. So, you can simply copy your BSAVE'd MSX-screens
to the PC, and view them with these (several screens, including 8 &
12, supported). These Windows-utillities allow direct saving as
BMP-files, which can be processed into other formats easily. Last
time I looked, his MSX-pages were at:
http://members.ping.at/lexlechz/msx.html
Another way would be to load the pictures on an emulated MSX, and
then use the screendump function found in many (not all) emulators,
dumping the MSX screen in .BMP, .PCX format or such. Although you
have to watch that not all MSX resolutions (512 pixel width!) or
color depths (MSX2+ screens) are supported that way. But usefull for
screen modes like 5 & 8.
3rd way would be to use the MSX itself to write an MSX screen to disk
in a format like GIF or BMP. I know of at least one GIF encoder for
MSX, and a TSR, that -would- (didn't test it) write a MSX screen to
disk in BMP format.
For the PC -> MSX:
Use a GIF (up to 256 colors) or JPEG (more colors) viewer for MSX,
that has an option to save the screen in 'native' MSX format. One
thing that would be very usefull here: use the PC to process
(resize/color depth adjustments) the pictures so, that they have a
'convenient' combination of colors/pixel sizes, giving an MSX viewer
an easy task of selecting a suitable screen mode.
(like 256 x 212 x 256 colors, or 512 x 212 x 16 colors).
All this is for the most part not too difficult, just a lot of work.
I suggest doing any image processing on the PC as much as possible,
many MSX programs have very limited capabilities or bugs in this
respect, and take much more time for it.
BTW. What has the presence of a MSX harddisk to do with this? As far
as I know, such tools can normally work with any type of disk (like
720K DD disks).
