Well, you can't say that RObert, as ERic just said that it is incomparible! I
know someone who made great musics on his 286 with the MOD format. The quality
highly depends on the quality of the samples. Once you made a nice rythm,
consuming, say, 4 channels, you can mix them (resample them, maybe) and use
that sample on only 1 channel for the same effect. So with a little bit more
work, you can get a lot out of those 4 channels, especially if you use very
good samples.

Ofcourse the nice thing about MOD was that it was so easy to insert all kinds
of own-made samples (like with the Musmod (and ofcourse Moonsound, but then
you need a PC or something).

TOdays, there is the XM (eXtended MOD) format, which can handle up to 32
channels (I believe). With this, that friend of mine makes music nowadays on
his P90, with 16bit soundcard. By using very good samples and a fine mixing
technique (cutting off 'clicks', etc), he achieves studio-quality. This is
proved by the fact that this music will be released at the end of this month,
without actual studio resampling or remixing (Dutch: 'afmixen'). By the way,
it is Techno music (trancy like) and will be released on the label of Robin
Albers (a.k.a. JayDee (remember Plastic Dreams?), and also producer of The
Venga Boys and The Sunclub, e.g.).

So now it should be clear that, indeed, MOD files cannot be compared with
SYNTHESIZERS like the MSX-Audio and the MSXX-Music. A Violin on MSX-Audio will
never sound like a sampled real violin!

Ofcourse we now have MOONSOUND! 24 wave channels! Great! Too bad MSX is a bit
to slow to make and mix nice samples on. But for that purpose I allow you to
buy a PC! ;-)

By the way, let's hope Fuzzy Logic (Shadow) will finish that Moonsound version
of Oracle...
