SCART cable contains both RGB and CVBS. So it is very well possible that
your VHS recorder is simply ignoring the RGB signals and using just the CVBS.
A signal with separated luminance and color signal (like S-Video) gives
better image than CVBS, which has everything in only one signal. But I
don't think 8280 has an S-Video (also called S-VHS) connector.
Maybe it's possible to make one by soldering something inside your 8280?
Another option would be an external RGB to S-Video converter, but I have no
idea how much that would cost.
By the way, can your VHS handle S-Video at all? If not, you will probably
never get better quality with it.
By the way, did you already test RF-out (antenna)? I don't think it will
improve your picture, but you can always try...
