Have you tried replacing the rubber band inside the drive?
It's a low-cost band, used in tape-recorders. Ask for O 60mm.
I have replaced more than 50 of them, and the drive works like NEW !
It takes 10 miniutes to change it.
if you have problems to find them, i have some for you.
