It makes the OPLL connected to that slot listen to I/O over the standard
MSX-MUSIC ports.

This allows more than one MSX-MUSIC to be present in an MSX without
conflicts. Having two MSX-MUSICs play the same music would probably not
sound nice (small differences in output would create a really weird effect).

Not all MSX-MUSIC hardware sticks to this scheme. The original FM-PAC does.
The FM-PAK and the Korean PACs don't, as far as I know. I think the turbo R
does, because it's made by Panasonic just like the FM-PAC.

Note that the MSX-MUSIC can also be controlled through memory mapped I/O.
In this way, you can play different sounds on 2 MSX-MUSICs in one MSX, just
like you can play on 2 SCCs. Sean Young figured this out when doing
research for Virtual MSX.

I guess the 32K ROM is only the interface, the Kanji ROM itself is probably
a lot larger.
