The MikMod library can play many tracked music formats (all the ones you
mentioned and more).

You can link libmikmod to XMMS (www.xmms.org), that way you can play tracked
formats as easily as MP3s. XMMS is sort-of the WinAmp equivalent for X.

Converting is not that difficult: you can select the "play to WAV" option
(most players have this) and then encode the WAV file to MP3.
